I teach English for a living, but suddenly find myself needing language instruction as well. I think this app is very powerful, but if you are serious about studying -- you will also need to find other resources to help you along the way. What is most lacking -- at least from my perspective -- is the formal component of study: e.g. grammar charts. Dont get me wrong, I think you can get pretty far with this apps presentation style -- but for the language to really click I think tables are necessary. Also, I strongly recommend using Quizlet (another app/website) to create your own set of review cards. Good luck!!

Love the app. Basically learned portuguese in the metro. Gets addictive with the gamefication design. I m very happy that the vocabulary and everything is everyday language and not "the correct" way. Recommend all the way!

I like that this easy to use and a good blend between speaking and writing.

Have been using for a few months now and making good progress. App is well structured and useful but not cheap either. The gui should be improved so that one can go back in lesson pages if need be.

Portuguese needs to be divided by European, Brazilian and African. There are differences. There are words that some dont use and pronunciation is also different.

Well-made, well-elaborated exercises make this tool most convenient for me. Really the only thing I use for learning is this one when on iPad and pc version when at home. Recommend it!

I really really like that app ! Especially the small notes that they give sometimes is amazing.

I needed to learn European Portoguese and i trusted this app and paid 1 yr subscription. Nowhere they specified that its only Brazilian and not Portoguese. They cheated me. And the app is not even good. Very bad!

Just wish there were ways to construct sentences, but simply an amazing app to have for learning!

The only improvement I think Babbel needs is more user analytics... Even basic stuff like previous scores, etc Still very glad I have Babbel and use it every day

Im Brazilian so Portuguese is my native language, I just downloaded this app because thought that the French version, that I first downloaded, had a problem with the speech recognition. And both versions(French and Portuguese) have it.

There product reflects there refund policy. They charge 3 months in advance and will refuse to issue refunds. There microphone option doesnt work. Save yourself the trouble and use duo lingo

It just comes up briefly then disappears. It worked fine immediately prior to the iOS 7.0.3 upgrade. Needs a fix....

I’ve been using babbel portuguese for a couple of months now as a new learner. The courses blend a good mix of vocabulary, sentences, conversation and grammar. The audio sounds like real voices instead of being synthesized, which helps pick up different accents, and I feel the exercises actually help reinforce the lesson plan without getting too gamey. This latest version also seems to launch the lessons more quickly.

Best app to get started learning a foreign language. You can use your mic or learn to spell the words as you go. You will learn words one at a time and also you will here native speakers speak sentences at normal speed. Pictures help you remember what you are learning and lessons are created in a way to help you feel successful. Of course learning with other people face to face is the best way but this program will prepare you for conversation. For the price... It cant be beat.

What is it we try to achieve when learning a language ? I think most people would like to be able to communicate well . Is the program teaching how to construct sentences ? Unfortunately the answer is no and I give it only 2 stars because even though it is fun to use Babbel it makes you just repeat words.I am not forced to answer in complete sentences and after 6 month I realized that the program is a complete waste of money .The focus is on making a fun program but it accomplishes nothing.By the way ,my first language is not English but I did not learn it on Babbel

No way to go back, without starting over. Not user friendly. If it worked, I would have ordered the complete course. But needs a lot of work.
